A perspective on the evolution and future of products

How to design AI features that meet user expectations.

This talk is a macro-tutorial on designing AI features that meet user expectations.
It unfolds in four parts:

  1. Relevance. We’ll begin with illustrating why this topic is important.
  2. History. We’ll talk about why and how products came to be and how their features evolved throughout different periods in human history. This evolutionary emergence of three fundamental product feature categories will provide the context for today’s challenges.
  3. Consequences. Next we’ll point out the impact of product evolution, including what people expect from products and why some AI features break these expectations and lead to cognitive dissonance, resistance or rejection.
  4. Future-Proofing. We’ll finish with a proposal on fixing this misalignment and a discussion of the most beneficial way to designing products in the future, regardless of the technology.
