This workshop is dedicated to the limitations that design faces daily when adapting large volumes of textual, numerical, and visual information for mobile devices, and the ways to overcome them.
The workshop begins with an overview of the evolution of the visual representation of complex information in analog and digital environments. This is followed by a categorization of the main information units (charts, headings, tables, etc.) and their specifics – typography, standards, readability, styling possibilities, and technical development constraints. Common visualization errors, often found even in otherwise professionally made applications and websites, will also be pointed out.
The practical part consists of real-world tasks that require adapting large datasets for small screens. The results will be analyzed and discussed, and participants will improve their skills in prioritizing and composing visual elements for mobile devices in an optimal way.
The workshop is suitable for designers and UX specialists working on projects with diverse and large amounts of content. Participants should already be familiar with the basic concepts of digital design – interactivity, responsive design, design systems, and units of measurement. It is recommended to bring laptops with Figma installed, as well as paper and pencils.
