The Product Discovery Playbook: Essential Techniques to Elevate Your Research and Design Practice

This workshop is sold out.

Tired of seeing seemingly good ideas crash and burn? Frustrated that research and design often get blamed for product failures?

The truth is, most ideas do fail. But they fail because they’re built on shaky ground – a foundation of unevidenced assumptions on top of more unevidenced assumptions.

But what if you were able to:

  • Spot winning ideas early and quickly move past the duds
  • Uncover hidden risks before you overinvest in the wrong direction
  • Build products customers love through a whole new practice of testing your assumptions

In this workshop, we will use real life examples to learn how to:

  1. Deconstruct assumptions: Identify the critical elements that make or break an idea and ruthlessly prioritise them
  2. Redefine user research and experimentation: Discover creative, low-cost ways to gain quality insights and challenge your mental model for what can constitute “user research”, “a test” or “an experiment”
  3. Design rapid, targeted experiments: Get maximum value from minimal research and design effort by learning to distinguish between “evidence” and “proof” and when each one is needed

We will also touch upon two adjacent skills and practices as an intro to and outro of the exercises in the workshop – these are the arts of :

  • Assessing opportunities: Spot ideas with the highest potential for customer and business impact
  • Communicating findings: Persuade stakeholders and build alignment by telling compelling stories about the value and pace of product discovery

The workshop is suitable for researchers and designers of all experience levels, as well as to anyone working within and with digital products.
